Gainsborough Town Council - Annual Report
ANNUAL REPORT 2006/2007
FOR THE ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING
TUESDAY 3rd APRIL 2007 @ 7:00PM
Fellow Councillors, members of the Public and
the Press.
My year as Mayor has been an eventful one if
nothing else, it was not a good start with me breaking my leg
on the second civic occasion I attended; however I have enjoyed
the year, and have travelled all over; Lincolnshire. I have
at all times promoted Gainsborough and its people, which I feel
is one of the main roles of the Mayor. I feel the most memorable
events have been the college fun day, giving the court award
with the High Sheriff of Lincoln, the Riverside Festival, the
events in other towns, my own civic and the first civic I attended.
The first civic I attended I was met with respect and friendliness,
I was made to feel as if I belong there which was such a help
at the time, and set the year among some brilliant strangers
who very quickly became friends.
Another part of my duty was to be the chairman
of this Council, and I have always tried to be fair with both
the elected Councillors and the public, and I hope that this
has been obvious, throughout the year. It has been a pleasure
to serve the people of Gainsborough and many great things are
happening in our small town, in the next few months, with the
Marshalls Yard project the revamping of the town centre, our
own Council taking over the Cemeteries, and I hope that these
working relationships do not break down but continue to grow.
The down side of this job is the fact that you
loose your personal life for a year, and it can be expensive,
and no more wearing those baggy trousers and comfy t-shirts
and those soft shoes, and I look forward to again being the
Christmas fairy.
